Issue #159 All About Email
“The Morning Report, the long and the short...”
Hi, friend. 👋
Welcome to Issue #159 of All About Email!
Last week was the final part of our mini-series of the Email Love Figma Plugin → HTML Email Builder.
We briefly revisited the Export to Klaviyo feature, which we highlighted last week, and then I will take a more in-depth look at the plugin itself.
This week, we are discussing email reporting, and we will start with a Lion King GIF! What could be better than that?
Let’s go! 👇
“The Morning Report, the long and the short…”
Do I Need Email Reports?
✅ Short answer = Yes!
Are All Reports Equal?
❎ Short answer = Nope!
What Reports Do I Need?
The short answer is "it depends".
Based on your industry.
Your ESP.
Any third-party reporting tools.
And whether you are a business sending campaigns yourself or hiring an agency or freelancer to do this for you.
🧠 (A good agency or freelancer should know what reports each client needs.)
What Tools Should I Use?
This is an often-asked question amongst email marketers.
💡 It isn't because we don't know what we are doing but because reporting tools change over time.
⚡️ New tools are released, and old tools become obsolete if they don't keep up with email marketers' changing needs.
Always start with your ESP (Email Service Provider).
Some, like Klaviyo, have incredibly detailed reporting, which may suit your needs, especially if you use SMS and are an eCommerce brand.
🛠️ If you find your reporting tools are not enough for you or your clients, try these recommendations from Mailchimp Partners:
Most tools offer a free trial or tier, so try them to find one that meets your needs.
Compliance Reporting
🚨 No reporting would be complete without these two free tools from Google and Yahoo.
Your ESP cannot give you this data, so signing up for these free tools is more than worth it.
Google Postmaster Tools
Yahoo CFL
If you need advice on how to set up these tools, I’ve got you covered:

What About AI?
So, friend, let’s say your ESPs email reporting isn’t very good or the good stuff is locked away at a higher tier.
This is where AI can come in. All you need is:
A spreadsheet or PDF of data
A prompt
You can use this type of prompt to get started (and iterate on it depending on your needs):
“Output 1: Year-over-year performance insights breakdown
Output 2: Top performers against the median
Output 3: Low or weak performers against the median
Output 4: Highly specific recommendations that are not generic e.g. don't say 'send more SMS' as it's too generic
Be as detailed as possible with the analysis“
🚨 Now, be careful with AI! Depending on what service you use (and the prompt), you can get quite different results.
For my testing, I used Chat GPT Premium and Claude Premium.
That’s it for this week 👋
⏭️ Next week, I’ll be sharing the results of a little experiment I’ve been running in my newsletters the last week or so, and it’s something you can try yourself.
Don’t forget friend, you can catch up on now on:

Part Two - Templates, Resources, Community, Help and Support.
